LICENSE TO CARRY COURSE
​
On Target Training offers the “LTC” Course taught by a DPS and NRA certified instructor. It is a half day course.
​
Class is $85/pp (cash, CC, check – payable to Cully Stoilis). Payment is due before class starts.
​
You will be required to take a written test (all material required to pass the test will be covered in class) and a shooting proficiency test. Applicant MUST BE ready to take the proficiency test – there is no practice time or range instruction allowed. (If you need to get familiar with your handgun or needing a safety course, please schedule the Basics of Shooting class PRIOR to your “LTC” Course.)
Upon passing of both tests, you will be given the form LTC-100 signed by your instructor that is required by the DPS to complete your online application. It is your responsibility to submit this form with your LTC application. You have one year from date of issuance to complete your application.

CLASSROOM
​

Approximately four hours of instruction

Guns are NOT to be in the class – they must be in a case and locked in your vehicle

NO AMMO ALLOWED IN THE CLASS

We will have three break periods – you may bring snacks/drinks. Refreshments will be provided

25 question written examination is pass/fail

RANGE
​

Approximately one hour (depending on size of class)

Handgun for course – .22 cal or larger (handgun rentals available for $15)

50 rounds of factory ammo (ammo available to purchase for the class for $40/box 9mm, 380, 40cal - subject to change)
-
Applicant may test with either a semi-auto or revolver
-
Safety wear: shooting glasses/goggles, ear protection, closed toe shoes, baseball cap

PROFICIENCY TEST
​
DPS requires the applicant to be able to handle your gun (including operating the safety/de-cocker) between strings of fire. Must pass with 175 out of 250.
Stage 1
20 shots will be fired from 3-yards

5 shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” – 2 seconds allowed for each shot

10 shots fired in a “Two Shot Exercise” – 3 seconds allowed for each two shot sequence
-
5 shots fired in 10 seconds
Stage 2
20 shots fired from 7-yards – fired 5 stages

5 shots fired in 10 seconds
-
5 shots fired in two stages:
*2 shots fired in 4 seconds
*3 shots fired in 6 seconds

5 shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” – 3 seconds for each shot

5 shots fired in 15 seconds
Stage 3
10 shots fired from 15-yards – fired in two 5-shot strings

5 shots fired in two stages:
*2 shots fired in 6 seconds
*3 shots fired in 9 seconds

5 shots fired in 15 seconds

ELIGIBILITY

Applicant must be at least 21 years of age when application is submitted (unless active duty military) and must meet federal qualifications to purchase a handgun.

LICENSE TO CARRY APPLICATION
​
You may complete your online application either BEFORE OR AFTER you take the “LTC” course. Once you pay online, your fees are non-refundable by the state.

You will need to have:

Valid driver’s license or identification card (make sure address is correct)

Current demographic, address, contact, and employment information
-
Residential and employment information for the last five years
-
Information regarding any psychiatric, drug, alcohol, or criminal history
-
Valid email address
-
Valid credit card – all fees are non-refundable
Once you complete your application online with DPS, you will be emailed a link to schedule your fingerprints (approximately $10). You MUST use this link to make your appointment – it will be attached to your application.
Your LTC Course instructor will give you a signed LTC-100 – it is your responsibility to submit this form with your “LTC” application. Your LTC-100 is valid for only one year. Once you’ve applied online with DPS, you will be given a checklist to follow for LTC application completion.
License to Carry application is approximately $40.00. It is paid directly to the state online and is non-refundable. Process may take up to 60 days.
Once you obtain your License to Carry, your license will be valid for four years. All renewal licenses are valid for five years. As long as your license is not expired more than 12 months you may renew your license. If your license has been expired more than 12 months, the DPS will not allow you to renew it and you will have to retake the class all over again.
